Ce n'est pas un jeu de societé !

Rating 1 out of 5 stars.

It's not a social game!

Rating 1 out of 5 stars.
I've been addicted to board games for many years and was quickly seduced by the theme and the more than tempting board! The first game was relatively difficult to understand and I agree with almost all the other customer reviews: the 'rules' (= path to victory) are dense and specific to each character (6 in this box). Even if this very specific point needs to be questioned in order to call it a BOARD game, I wasn't averse to this particular feature at first. "It's a trick", I thought. But when the truth came out, I was in despair! Remember the game books of our childhood: "if you manage to find the 10 keys on this page, go back to page 9 and then pass!...". Well, Villainous is just like that, except that the pages of our game books have been turned into playing cards. So this isn't a game at all! There are no interesting mechanics (especially as they are individual and therefore very difficult for your enemies to perceive!) This "game" consists of placing a scenario written on cards on the board. To my great dismay, given the visible quality of the board, the attempt at entertainment fails. Anyone who has designed the mechanics of the game must not really have grasped the fundamental interactions between players that a board game involves. Even in a heatwave on the 5th floor, under the rooftops, this game doesn't make the time go by any faster. Aside from the fever I felt when I played this game and the bitter taste of my victory with Prince Jean, I could see a future for this game other than the compost bin or Aunt Suzette's attic: it would involve rethinking this game around the principle of accumulating resources and a board comprising only hexagonal squares. So open your eyes, dear players around the world, because a game of Villainous is bound to make you want to close them forever!
